What is Interventional Radiology?
What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiology (IR) is a medical subspecialty that uses minimally invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases. Using X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, and other imaging techniques, interventional radiologists can treat a wide range of conditions through tiny incisions, often replacing the need for open surgery.
Benefits
- Minimally invasive — smaller incisions, less pain
- Shorter recovery times compared to open surgery
- Usually performed under local anaesthesia
- Lower risk of complications
- Often performed as outpatient procedures
